Protecting your data matters to us. In this privacy policy we explain what personal data we process when you visit this website, sign up for the newsletter or get in touch with us, why we do so and what rights you have. The governing law is the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP, revDSG). Where the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies to you because you are in the European Economic Area, we take it into account as well.

What data we process and why
We only process data that we need to run this website, answer your enquiries, send the newsletter and carry out our assignments. We don’t sell data and don’t pass it on for advertising purposes. Personal data means any information relating to an identified or identifiable person, for example name, email address, phone number or IP address.
We process data for the following purposes:
- Providing, operating and securing the website
- Answering enquiries made via the contact form, email or phone
- Sending the newsletter if you have signed up for it
- Preparing and delivering training, consulting and projects
- Complying with legal obligations, such as retention requirements
For visitors from the EEA, we rely on the following legal bases under the GDPR: contract and pre-contractual measures (Art. 6(1)(b)), our legitimate interest in a secure and functioning website (Art. 6(1)(f)), legal obligations (Art. 6(1)(c)) and your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), for example for the newsletter.
Hosting and server log files
This website is hosted by cyon GmbH in Basel; the servers are located in Switzerland. Each time a page is requested, the server automatically stores technical information in so-called server log files:
- IP address of the requesting device
- Date and time of access
- Page or file requested and amount of data transferred
- Page from which you came to us (referrer)
- Browser and operating system
We need this data to deliver the website, find errors and fend off attacks. We don’t combine it with other data and only analyse it if there are concrete indications of misuse. The log files are deleted automatically after a short time. cyon processes the data as a processor on our behalf.
Contact form, email and phone
When you write to us via the contact form, we process the information you enter there: name, email address and message, plus, optionally, your phone number and the topics you selected. The form is transmitted in encrypted form and delivered to us by email. To prevent automated spam, we use an invisible check field, a timing check and a limit on requests per IP address, without third-party services and without a captcha. Anything filtered out by these checks is not stored.
Whether by form, email or phone: we use your information exclusively to answer your enquiry and clarify any follow-up questions. If it leads to an assignment, we keep the related correspondence for as long as is necessary for the project and for statutory retention requirements (business records for up to ten years). Enquiries that don’t lead to an assignment are deleted once they have been dealt with and no retention obligation applies.
Newsletter
For the Watanabe Finance newsletter we only need your email address and your consent. Your sign-up is delivered to us by email; we keep the addresses in our own list and use them exclusively to send the newsletter and invitations from Watanabe Finance. We currently don’t use an external newsletter service; should that change, we will update this policy beforehand.
You can unsubscribe at any time with a short message to hello@watanabe.finance or via the unsubscribe link in every newsletter. We will then delete your address from the list. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time with effect for the future.
Learning progress in your browser, no cookies
This website sets no cookies and uses no tracking or analytics services. So that the Watanabe path works, your browser stores some information locally (local storage): which stations you have visited, which quizzes you have passed and whether your guide Mrs. Watanabe is shown or hidden. This information never leaves your browser and is not transmitted to us. You can delete it on the path map with “Reset progress” or in your browser settings.
Fonts and links
We serve all fonts, scripts and images from our own server. No content from Google Fonts, YouTube, map services or other third-party services is embedded, so visiting this website does not create a connection to such providers. Links to other websites are simple references: only when you click on one do you reach the provider’s site, where their privacy policy applies.
Disclosure to third parties and processing abroad
We only disclose personal data if it is necessary for the purposes described, if you have consented or if we are legally obliged to do so. The main recipient is our hosting and email provider cyon GmbH in Switzerland. If we work with partners on a project, such as developers or lawyers, we only pass on the information they need for their task, and only after agreeing this with you. No processing takes place abroad.
Data security
The connection to this website is encrypted throughout with HTTPS (TLS). In addition, we use technical and organisational measures to protect your data against loss, manipulation and unauthorised access, for example strict browser security policies, up-to-date software and restricted access to the data. Please note that transmitting data over the internet, for example by unencrypted email, is never completely secure.
Your rights
Within the scope of the applicable data protection law, you have the following rights at any time:
- Access to information on whether and what data we process about you
- Rectification of incorrect or incomplete data
- Erasure of your data, unless a retention obligation prevents it
- Restriction of processing and objection to processing
- Release or transfer of your data in a common electronic format
- Withdrawal of consent given, with effect for the future
A message to the contact details above is all it takes. So that we don’t release data to unauthorised persons, we may ask you to prove your identity. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority: in Switzerland with the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), in the EEA with the supervisory authority of your country of residence.
Changes
We update this privacy policy when our website, our services or the legal requirements change. The version published on this page applies. Last updated: 25 October 2026.
